JACQUE SCORGIE
My work is quite varied in genres as I believe themes and concepts can dictate an appropriate media to use. I tend to work in the form of installation through sculpture, ceramics, print (traditional and digital) and prose. Â
I work intuitively whilst experimenting and aim to create works that have levels of meaning that engage an audience to see beyond what is in front of them, but also so that each audience member can take their own interpretation. Â
Some of the key themes within my practice are; nature and the environment; Life and humanity; journeys; the imagination and the made-up world. These themes I approach with the intention of getting the audience to rethink them with a twist of creative thinking.
ARTWORK
JIGABET
Jigabet is ceramic hand built letterforms that are made in a variety of clays. This project gave me the opportunity to explore lots of clay bodies and experiment with glazes on them. Therefore seeing how different clay reacts with different glaze combinations. Each one is unique and it was a huge learning and experimentation that can now inform my practice going forward.
A CITY WITHIN
Ripping up the natural ground for the black gold that is only going to last 100 years. Creating tunnels full of chemicals, gaping holes and destroying the neighbourhoods where we live.
100 GLAZE EXPERIMENTS
Glazed Ceramics
When it comes to ceramics and glaze sometimes it is up to chance, but this makes it exciting. Creating 100 variations of applications I have experimented, played and experienced the anticipation of opening the kiln knowing all too well despite all the planning and precision there is always an element of surprise.
TREES OF THE FORGGOTTED UNDERLAND
Plaster of Paris
The Forggotted Underland of now only exists because of the plastic trees that man created...
There was a sudden burst of light and this obstacle course structure was placed.
UNTITLED
Screen Print
This work addresses the issues of plastics, in particular bottles and their lids. The wildlife in both our seas and in our local communities are mistaking these items for food and trying to consume them. I witnessed this first hand, the birds and fish are unaware of the damage these items can do.
We are all responsible for the plastic problem. Responsible for the plastic bottles floating in the sea. But we can all come together and help too. Using reusable bottles, reusing our plastic bottles, and recycling efficiently.
The material used within this work comes from the source itself, plastic bottles. Collaged and abstracted into a form. Furthermore, the use of black and yellow creates an atmosphere of danger and warning similar to some hazard symbols used in other society signs.
